Hugo Public Schools is providing distance learning opportunities for our students.  These opportunities are available in online and hard copy versions.  Please see the individual school plans below for details.  Participation is voluntary.  Students may choose to participate in non-graded learning opportunities or graded learning opportunities.  Unless students choose to participate in graded learning opportunities, their grades will be based on the work they completed as of March 12, 2020.  No student’s grade will be lowered as a result of participation in distance learning.  These graded opportunities can only raise a student’s grades.  Our school year and distance learning opportunities will end on May 8, 2020.

2020 Census

Don’t let COVID-19 keep Hugo from COUNTING!

It’s easy.  I did mine in less than five minutes online.

It’s confidential.  Other agencies cannot access the information which is kept secret for over 70 years.  There is no reason to fear completing the Census.

It’s important for our schools.  A great deal of the funding we receive is based on Census data.

It’s important for our community.  We will not be able to take full advantage of so much offered through our federal, state, and tribal governments without accurate Census data.

The Census even has some authentic math lessons.

From Our Superintendent

Hugo Public Schools is located in the historic City of Hugo, Oklahoma in the southeastern part of the state.  We are proud of our heritage and optimistic about our future.  The district is made up of four school sites educating approximately 1200 students.  We are fortunate to have the very best faculty and staff providing students with outstanding curricular and extracurricular learning experiences focused on preparing them for success in life.

Thank you parents and caregivers for entrusting us with the education of your children.  We take our responsibility of engaging all students in meaningful learning every day very seriously.  We believe that education is the path to success in life.  We are honored to be in a partnership with you in providing the very best educational opportunities for your child and for all the children who make up Hugo Public Schools.

Our Choice to Use ACT

Federal and state rules about state mandated testing allow districts to choose either the SAT or ACT as the Grade 11 measure of student proficiency in Reading, English Language Arts, and Mathematics.  Hugo Public Schools has chosen the ACT because it is the more common entrance examination used by Oklahoma colleges and universities.  We feel it is a better measure of the accomplishment of the standards that make up the Oklahoma Academic Standards (OAS).  Our curriculum is aligned with the OAS which is aligned with the ACT.  This alignment allows us to focus student learning on college and career readiness in addition to the development of important life skills.  We value the opinions of parents/caregivers of our students as well as other members of our community.  Please email any comments or suggestions about the district’s decision to use the ACT to our District Testing Coordinator, Mrs. Hicks, at

Educating Children Who Are Homeless

Hugo Public Schools faculty and staff work together to ensure a welcoming environment for students who are homeless.  We strive to facilitate academic success for these students by giving them the right to remain in one school despite their residential status as well as the ability to access all appropriate educational opportunities and services according to the McKinney-Vento guidelines.

Please contact our Homeless Liason, Mrs. Lori Hicks, at 580-326-9648 for information and/or help with enrollment and services.
