988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline

The 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline is a suicide prevention and crisis intervention service available to anyone in suicidal crisis or emotional distress of any kind in the United States and its territories via phone, text message (SMS), online chat, and ASL Videophone. 988 Lifeline crisis counselors provide help-seekers with crisis counseling and referrals. The 988 Lifeline consists of a network of more than 200 independently-operated, local crisis centers located across the United States and its territories. Voice callers to the 988 Lifeline are routed to a crisis counselor at the nearest accredited network crisis center in the caller's area. 988 Lifeline chat and text conversations are routed to a center in their state or a subnetwork of crisis centers around the country accredited to provide online emotional support. Specialized services are available to Veterans (in partnership with the VA and SAMHSA, calls routed to the Veterans Crisis Line), Spanish speakers, LGBTQ+ youth, and ASL users.
