Oklahoma Math Tutoring Corps (OMTC)

The Oklahoma Math Tutoring Corps (OMTC) will open registration in May for the 2023-24 school year. Tutoring is open for Oklahoma students who will be in grades 7, 8 and 9 in the fall. This high-dosage tutoring program provides 50-minute virtual tutoring sessions three times a week in groups of no more than four students.

The Oklahoma Department of Education (OSDE) will be hosting live webinars to share information about the OMTC with families. Please share this flyer with your students’ families so they may attend and learn about the free tutoring opportunity.

The OSDE has provided three semesters of tutoring through the OMTC. Families who have participated in the program have had the chance to share their feedback through surveys. Some results from the surveys include:

  • 90% of participants increased their understanding of mathematics.
  • 84% of families said participating students were more confident about math.
  • 84% of students indicated they would be more likely to persevere after making a mistake.

After a 9-week pilot in spring 2022, 78% of students who participated had 2022 assessment scores within the same performance level as in 2021 or improved a performance level. Remaining at the same performance level is considered growth as the state’s academic standards increase in complexity each grade level.

OSDE’s Math Tutoring Corps will host two sessions during the 2023-24 school year. The first runs September 17 through November 18, and the second in Spring 2024. Each session can accommodate up to 1,500 students and students are eligible to participate in one or both of the sessions. Families and students can complete a form through this link to be notified when registration opens. The OSDE will provide any needed technology or internet access, and tutoring schedules will occur during students’ free time outside of the school day.

Additional information is available on the OSDE’s Math Tutoring Corps webpage.
